I love Autumn. I’m an “up North” girl and my little heart longs for crisp days and leaves crunching beneath my feet. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about our family traditions when my sisters and I were growing up in Geneva (not the country, the Chicago suburb). Every Fall, we would pile in the car and “take a drive” as my Dad would say, to an apple orchard; we picked our own apples, drank fresh cider and picked out our pumpkins to carve for Halloween. I’ve been searching for a place similar since then. A place that could remind me of home and that our family could return to every Season.
Guess what? I’ve found it.
Take a drive headed west down Hwy 98 and you’ll see a sign bearing the name Hillcrest Farm that boasts fresh eggs, homemade preserves and local honey. I have been meaning to stop at this place for longer than I care to admit. Every time I drive by I make a mental note: “I need to go there”; but I’ve never had the time. This weekend I changed all that. When we got there, my husband made a beeline for the rows of fresh preserves and homemade salsa. The boys went to see the chickens while my husband and I chatted with the owner trying to make our selections. We ended up taking home 5 jars (and they were soooo delicious)!!
It was exactly what I had been looking for. Quaint, friendly and a touch of home. We will be back again and again.
Our boys even made a new friend…
We will see you again for the corn maze!

Amy - Great photos! I love Hillcrest Farm as well. We are blessed to be located very close to them. While you were out here did you visit Sweet Home Cheese as well?
