Determination.

I am so incredibly happy to be posting again! For those of you who don’t know already, on May 9th I had upper and lower jaw surgery.  NO, not TMJ surgery, a lot more complicated, but I’ll spare you the details.  Basically, they cut my cheekbone on either side, moved my top jaw up 8mm and took my bottom jaw, cut in the way back and moved up and forward about 11mm.  I currently have 4 titanium plates in my cheeks and 20 titanium screws in my face.  (I’m staying away from airports for awhile!)  The pain the 1st week was UNREAL.  My surgeon (love him. Dr. Pfeffle- the BEST) had informed me months before that this surgery was not usually terribly painful…those sinus nerves, once they get stretched, shut off.  That’s just what they do.  Usually, it takes about a week for them to turn back on.  By that time, the pain has subsided.  Well.  Hmmm.  When the Dr. came back in after the 5 1/2 hr surgery, I told him I could feel my face in certain places.  His eyes got really large and he said “Oh. You can? Wow.”  I was the 1 of however many, who’s nerves came on almost immediately after surgery.  Good to know they were still working, but BAD for pain.   Wow.  I don’t know how I made it that 1st week but I DID!! By the 8th day I was walking around the neighborhood, talking (kind of lol) and almost looked normal.  I just cannot believe that was 11 days ago…wow.  Amazing what the body can do!!  I am so determined to be 100%.  I love my life too much to sit on the sidelines anymore.

Speaking of “determination”…Saturday marked my sons last soccer game of the Season (his 9th!) and Tournament day.  I decided to be brave and go watch the game. I wasn’t going to miss it.   I LOVE being a Soccer Mom.  (I was just a little afraid of a rogue soccer ball hitting my face, but I survived without a scratch 😉  THESE KIDS WERE AMAZING.  Our 1st game was at 9:50 in the morning.  We got off the field at 5:50pm.  That’s right.  8 HOURS OF SOCCER.  These 8-10 year old kids played 6 games in a row.  30 min Tournament games + 6 games = 3 hours continuously on the field.  The kids had so much drive.  They wanted that win so badly.  I couldn’t believe when they would win again, and again, and again.  They made it to the Championship and, although they didn’t take the trophy, they came in 2nd place in the League.  Now, that is determination.  They all deserve a trophy for giving 110%.  Congrats Gators. <3
